On top of a flickering Eiffel Tower

Following my visit to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower was the next obvious stop. I had seen it from every possible angle throughout the years: from up in the air, from a moving car, from walking beside it. It was now time to go on top. I arrived on a fairly chilly afternoon, so while waiting at the ticketing line, the cold had taken over me. So, advice number 1 would be to buy a ticket in advance, especially during winter time.

There are two options to reach the top: by staircase or by elevator. Given how cold I was, I shamefully chose the elevator. I cheated to save time. To be perfectly honest with you, I am somewhat afraid of heights, so see-through structures are not my favorite. Ticket prices vary depending on your age; so if you are below 24, you’re in luck! An adult ticket goes for 14 euro, which is significantly cheaper than our $25 tickets for the Empire State Building (or Top of the Rock if you wish).

Once on top, apart from seeing Paris from every single corner, and the prominent Seine dividing it, the best part was being there at that perfect time of the day, when the sun sets. To make the best of the experience and the view, I suggest you to do the same; you will have the change to see it during the day, as well as during the night, when the lights turn on. It’s magical.

Once the tower turned blue and started flickering, that’s when I frantically started taking pictures. Anyone may go to Paris in their lifetime – in itself it is nothing out of the ordinary – but in that moment, you truly feel like the luckiest person in the world. It’s a very special moment, in the most romantic city in the world.

No wonder they call it the City of Lights; it really is …
