Fully equipped with my new ankle boots, scarf and cut out gloves, I set out on a second day discovering Montreal.
Often known as the blue and green city, Montreal has so much to offer besides the old city. An island boasting a generous waterfront in the Old Port, what impressed me most about this Francophone city were its breathtaking fall colors, seen throughout its 17 parks.
Going up Mount Royal, Montreal’s largest park, stunning views of the city await; designed by the same person who created New York City’s Central Park, every color in the palette can be seen in its fall foliage. Other activities include hiking, biking, cross country skiing and skating on Beaver Lake during winter time.
Standing on the observation terrace Kondiaronk Belvedere, I was in awe with the bright orange and yellow hues of the trees, as well as the reds down over Beaver Lake. Sure, Montreal is freezing half the time; but I think I may have arrived in the perfect season! I had never seen such splendid fall colors!
Part of the Mount Royal experience is to engage in some outdoor activities. If not fully prepared for hiking or biking, you can still descend the hill on these stairs, that ultimately take you to Beaver Lake. It is the most pleasant things you could do, while taking in the invigorating sights.
Once you reached the lake, you have another chance at photographing some surreal landscape.
My favorite were the red maple trees. Next time someone asks me what tree would I be, I know the answer. They are so beautiful and as traditional as they can be in Canada (does the Canadian flag ring a bell?). I could stare at them for hours; I have only seen similar trees in the Caribbean, in Turks & Caicos.
If in need for a snack, you can stop at the Le Pavillon restaurant. I really enjoyed this restaurant overlooking the lake, for its stunning views, elegant decor and multitude of choices. It operates as a cafeteria, as well as a classier bistro, for those with bigger pockets. Important events, such as weddings, can also take place in the establishment.
The bistro’s veranda is the perfect spot for an up-close shot of the unbelievable red maple trees.
