If you were unprepared (myself included) for an exotic, never heard of, eat your heart out with envy, fabulous Memorial Day getaway, let’s be friends.
I was bummed to be staying in the increasingly hot and humid New York City this weekend, but it turns out I didn’t .. at least not entirely.
I started out by heading to the Water Taxi Beach on Governers Island. The island had just opened, and will remain open until September 20th. I won’t lie, the beach is not glamorous, but it works, considering Manhattan is 20 minutes away.
I wore my new preppy polka dot dress and a DKNY orange clutch, and off I went.
Besides the beach, Governer’s Island is quite large, accommodating various events, biking, barbecuing, and what not. The only major inconvenience is waiting for the ferry going and back, which this time caught me by surprise. The rain started pouring, while waiting on a huge outdoor line.
After the rain settled, I continued my weekend by taking a short trip to Compo Beach in Westport, CT.
I had wanted to visit the beaches of Connecticut for some time now, and now I know there is no reason to be so anxious. The beach was alright, but better suited for CT residents and their numerous families.
What I enjoyed the most, though, was braving in the still chilly waters, for a well-needed refreshing swim! I also loved the coast line, the beautiful houses and the overall peace and quiet.
What about your Memorial Day weekend? Can you beat me with more exhilarating stories?
