An European gem like no other, Switzerland is known for more than its exceptional Swiss watchmaking and superior lifestyle. It is home to Lake Geneva – or Lac Léman as the Swiss call it – and its picturesque landscapes overlooking the Swiss and French Alps. Having seen it both during summer and winter time, there is an undeniable charm that a month like January portrays. The crisp mountain air along with the pure white mountain peaks ready to be skied away, are the main benefits of a Swiss winter vacation.
Starting from its shores, a brisk walk around both sides of the lake should be your number one activity in Geneva. The swans are delightful to look at, and the overall panorama is beautiful.
For a closer look at Geneva’s famous Jet d’Eau, you can book a boat cruise, that will go into all the details of the city’s history, as well as all other sights along the way. Situated at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhone River, it is visible throughout the city, including from the air when flying over the city. Switzerland is abundant with lakes and organized trips focused on their natural wonders, however Lake Geneva is the largest body of water in the country. You should also check the jet’s schedule, as it doesn’t run all the time.
Another fun thing regarding Geneva’s natural wonders is the quirky shape of its trees. Mostly seen around the banks of the lake, I couldn’t stop taking pictures of them; they look something out of Gaudi’s book of eccentricities.
Grab your warmest jacket, but this stroll around the lake is one you will surely enjoy. Have you ever been to Switzerland during the winter season?
