Sandy leaves a ghost town New York City

In this current life of ours, one in which we are constantly connected, total silence is unsettling; when everything comes to a stop, we are left wondering what to do.

We have forgotten how it is to be normal, to take a step back and enjoy the silence. We long for days of peace and quiet; we long to read a book, to sip some wine, to listen to jazz, and that alone. When we do get the chance, our addiction to being in the know, and to some extent, in control, makes us anxious. What was not long ago considered the natural thing to do has now become strange. The city that never sleeps has spent the night at a virtual standstill, covered in darkness, waking up to a ghost town dealing with the aftermath of a devastating storm. The history-making event has changed the face of the Big Apple, and all we can do … is wait … for “The Day After Tomorrow.”

When lights go off and deep silence settles in, what do you do?

PS – This post is a result of Sandy’s ravaging visit to New York. The simple occurrence of not having Internet for several hours, and not knowing when it will be restored is frightening. Not having power for a few days, and not knowing when life will go back to normal, is even more frightening. I pray for those of you that have been affected by the hurricane to get the relief you need, as soon as possible.
