Ever since my brother moved to Geneva, I was eager to see with my own eyes just how perfect and lavish Switzerland really is. Two things are evident the moment you land in Switzerland: everyone is perfectly on time and incredibly proper. How could they not be? Known for its high class and unbeatable watch makers, Switzerland is not only a surreal land of scenic landscapes and stunning architecture, but the kingdom of luxury watches and undisturbed perfection. It is particularly clear in Geneva, the country’s capital.
Walking by the banks of Lake Geneva, countless Swiss brands come into the horizon. You know them all: Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Omega, Baume & Mercier, Longines, Bulova, Breitling. You’ve surely also heard of Tissot, Rado, Tag Heuer, Raymond Weil and Victorinox. Luxury watches, casual watches, old and vintage watches, Geneva has them all.
I was taken by both the legendary Maison de l’horlogerie, as well as the more modern establishments selling the exclusive Swiss watches. Anywhere you look, left and right, you will find one. What’s to be noted, however, is the more convenient prices compared to the same ones you buy outside the borders of Switzerland.
Proudly celebrating centuries of watchmaking tradition, most Swiss brands date from the 1800s and even the 1700s; which is why the symbol of watches is seen everywhere throughout the Swiss capital.
Apart from the world-known watchmaking, Geneva is also home to exquisite architecture featuring the colorful Swiss window shutters. This building in particular is the most daring I’ve seen yet: multiple bright colors shamelessly disturbing the perfection.
So, meet you on the bridge over Lake Geneva to further discover the riches of Geneve. Don’t be late! 🙂
